Scientific Councils: SCIENTIFIC COUNSIL ON PROBLEMS OF ECOLOGY OF BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS

SCIENTIFIC COUNSIL ON PROBLEMS OF ECOLOGY OF BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS

Chairman – Yu.I. Chernov, Academician of the RAS

The Scientific Council on Problems of Ecology of Biological Systems (the first name—Scientific Council on Problems of Biogeocenology and Nature Conservation) was found in 1964 by academician V.N.Sukachev.
The Council coordinates fundamental researches on the following lines:

  • studying structural and functional organization and stability of biological systems and regularities of their anthropogenic changes;
  • elaboration of scientific grounds for ecological prediction, ecological examination and ecologically permissible standards of influence on biological systems;
  • elaboration of principles for management of biological systems under exploitation (theoretical bases of technologies for constructing artificial biological systems of different purposes, control over nonequili-brium ecological processes to intensify agriculture and silviculture, reclamation of degraded territories, creation of landscapes, optimal for human economic activity and recreation);
  • protection of biosystems to conserve biological diversity and use them as natural laboratories for studying populations and ecosystems.
Since 1981 the Council organizes annual readings in the memory of academician V.N.Sukachev, materials of which are published as monographs. The Scientific Council publicates proceedings of symposiums and conferences, monographs on theoretical and methodical problems.
