1974 – выпускник кафедры зоологии беспозвоночных биофака МГУ.
1978 – после аспирантуры (лаб. планктона Института океанологии АН СССР) защитил кандидатскую диссертацию по экологии зоопланктона перуанского апвеллинга.
1977-1981 – мнс, снс лаб. биологического мониторинга Государственного океанографического института Госкомгидромета СССР.
1981 по настоящее время мнс, снс, внс ИПЭЭ им. А.Н. Северцова РАН.
2001 – защитил докторскую диссертацию по теме «Роль неоднородности среды в пищевом поведении молоди рыб».
Область научных интересов: экология и поведение водных животных (рыбы, зоопланктон, паразитические ракообразные).
Международное сотрудничество: многолетние совместные экспериментальные работы в университетах Глазго (Великобритания), Ювяскюля (Финляндия) и Институте лимнологии АН Австрии.
