Goals and Tasks

Investigation of eco-morphological, zoogeographic and evolutionary fundamentals for the formation of terrestrial invertebrates. Natural communities of spatially clear isolation, elementary and, as a rule, unstable, being the subject to successional transformations, are used as models (xylo-mycetophillic communities of forest ecosystems, specialized communities of xylo- and phytophages of the desert zone). The main attention was paid to forest communities, particularly to the community of invertebrates destroying wood, as well as their entomophages. Of great practical value are the definition tables of insect larvae elaborated in the Group.

Under study have been the insects of the desert zone. The evolution of some groups of insects as based on the larval data is intensively studied.
