Main Goals and Tasks

Studying the echo-sounding and communication systems in vertebrates (in particular, the role of acoustic signalization in the total system of intraspecific communication), as well as the biomechanics of lower vertebrates and whales.

Dolphins are used to study the mechanisms responsible for generation and perception of acoustic signals, the adaptation of the acoustic system to changes in the environment, specific functioning of the locomotor system. Research of dolphins' hydrodynamics is also effected.

In studying the auditory system in dolphins and pinnipeds, its basic adaptive peculiarities are analyzed.
