Main Goals and Tasks

The hydrobiological station “Glubokoye ozero” is situated in Ruza District of the Moscow Region, some 90 km west of Moscow. The station was established in 1891 and works continuously ever since. Its main objects are monitoring of freshwater communities and studies in morphology and ecology of particular faunal groups, specially Cladocera. At the same time, the Biostation continues to be the base for various research programmes of the laboratories of the IEAME and of various other scientific centers.
